Does anyone know what's the best way to prevent water ingress into campervan bodies? My Autohome has more than one leak that I suspect is linked to a combination of worn trim parts, age and movement. Looking online just seems to show Americans covering everything in a tons of sealant and not worrying about how it looks!! I want something that works, will last a good long time and will look smart/can be painted over - any ideas?

Also, can trim parts be replaced if they're completely shot? The seal along the outer edge of the camper roof looks to have had its day in places, but I don't want to rip it all off it I can't find a suitable replacement.
 
I sealed the cab once on The Colonel I removed a strip cleaned it & roof up put sealant that said it was over paintable etc then screwed it back down.
 
The only way really is to remove the trim, repair what's underneath and put it all back together with a good sealant. What are the trim sections like on your van? Do they look like special mouldings or could they be replaced with stock material - like aluminium strip or angle.
 
(The wife was none too impressed at my suggestion about the Colonel but daughter interested ) .. What is the bodywork ... Aluminum?
 
I have sealed a couple of caravans up before by taking the ally trims off, scraping off the old putty and refitting with tiger seal. The white rubber/plastic strip inserts that cover the screwheads can be bought by the metre from caravan spares specialists
