Jack points..

Hi all

I was wondering if any body can tell me how strong the jack points really are on a commer..

What im planing on doing is:

I Have a two post hoist, and as you know the commer has the panel which hangs down below the body, which makes it very difficult to lift a commer.
My thorts are what if i get a piece of solid bar that fits snug in the jack point and let it hang out about 6" and weld a flat plate to the base side of the bar and use them as 4 lifting pads for my hoist...
Would this have been the place the cranes would have attached during assembly?

Has anyone done this or more importantly will the points be strong enough

if it would work i think i would be the best way of doing things as there wouldnt be anything in your way under there.

Personally, having replaced/repaired a number of outriggers on our Commer, would not use the original jacking points on the commer outriggers.

They can be weak from internal corrosion so be very careful.
 
You have to bear in mind BIGCALS location ;)

I doubt his jacking points are anything likes ours in 'old blighty'. :D
 
I use this method all the time. I suspend the vans from my 4 poster, to drop out the complete front crossmember, with engine and box and also the back axle. You do have to make sure they are solid 1st ;)
