insurance

i'm looking into getting a new insurance policy and wondered where people were insuring their vans and what sort of prices they're paying?

i've been paying about £80/£90 a year for a while, but the policy (with Aon) doesn't cover me to use the van for my business.

i did mention a while ago about the possibility of somehow making the club "official" and then using this to negotiate some decent insurance deals for members... any thoughts on this?

The cheapest I could get for the pickup was 140 quid! without buisiness use [:(!]
That was after lengthy explanations about Dodge being Renault Dodge and nothing to do with yanky motors.

tim's a60 pick-up is a couple of 3 hundred + 2 insure, commercial ins [V]with v8 [^] not bad really...try herts ins ie: hic

I tried doing a confused.com van search and failed at the first hurdle I'm afraid. Disclaimer wanted to know if van had been modified in any way [V]

not to hic [:0] they are usually the best, but there are one or two others that i have found good too pf spare in measham insured my singer vogue, then i transfered the policy to the mk 4 cortina.

Aon's number is 01384 552 788 - might be of use to people (cheap and no mileage limit).

i've never been quite sure about the differences between a motorhome, a living van and a van... I'm sure i had to send Aon copy of my reg certificate when i first sorted out insurance, which says type of body - 'Motor Caravan,' but the price has always been very cheap and i've wondered if its actually insured as a van and not a motorhome, especially since the original quotes i had were in the £600's

might be worth some of the PB ownners trying them tho, describing a PB as a van with a motor caravan type of body.

as far as i know, a living van is essentially a motorhome (ie with fixed bed/seat, cooker and sink) that is able to carry goods, just wonder how this is different (money wise) to having a "van" that just happens to have a bed/seat, cooker and sink...

don't know if this will help, but if you convert a van to a motor home /camper change the v5 = cheaper insurance [^] van is classed as commercial

thanks Chris

just been on the phone to HIC and Adrian Flux Insurance and what you're saying makes sense... they don't really distinguish between a motorhome van and a van for insurance purposes.

annoyingly tho, there is no such thing as a classic commercial insurance that covers business use...! ie it has to be either a classic (commercial) insurance for non commercial use or else a straightforward commercial insurance (which doesn't take into account the classic status of the vehicle).

so i reckon i might wing it for using it in my business for the moment - difference between £88 and £339 (which isn't a bad quote, it seems), especially as it'll really be used as a promotional vehicle.

ive had lots of old classic cars over the years and ive always found that if you ring up an insurance company called carol nash and ask for a classic car policy you will get insured dirt cheap, but you might be limited to about 8000 miles a year, but i dont think any of us will cover that sort of mileage anyway. heres an example i use to have a jaguar xjr 4litre twin turbo not quite a classic but it did come under a cherished car policy , before i heard about this insurance company i had the car insured with an ordinary insurer like swintons or something, because of the engine size and the performance of the car it fell into the highest category with ferraris and the likes, and it cost me £1500.00 a year to insure, which i did for two years then i heard about carol nash insurance at a classic car show and i got a free quote from them, because the car was older that twelve years old it could be insured on a cherished car policy, something i hadnt even heard of before, i was limited to ten thousand miles a year but the best bit was the price,( TAKE A DEEP BREATH NOW) an amazing £250.00 a year fully comp with window screen insurance, ( BEAT THAT).;):p:)[^]

Ive got my Merc classic car with HIC . It has modified suspension (air bags etc) Have declared all the mods . £115 /yr !5000 mls
When I recently went to them to insure a Kit car (Dutton ) they were extremely high ..£250 odd. Got it in the end with Roadsure, I think ,for £93, 3000mls ,after I got a quote from them whilst at Stoneleigh kit car show .! Pays to shop around a bit !.....just my 2p!
