Inlet Manifold - Alloy head

Have you got the old manifold gasket laying around from the head overhaul Tom

Cheers for the heads up Martin.

I'll take a look see for the gasket - I might well have the carbs of again this weekend so i'll grab a decent pic!

Well - no. Not really. It's not right. Bottom line is this van is going to be working. I need it to be ultra reliable.

I'm fairly confident the carbs are at the bottom of it. So before I spend any further time on it I want to get an SU on there so I know I have the fueling side sorted. Charlie is just so reliable, touch wood :/

Have you tried isolating one of the carbs so it runs on one, that way you should be able to find out which one is playing up - if it is just one.

That's an idea - I take it there is a common rail connecting all the take offs if you see what I mean... I assumed each carb only supplies just 2 cylinders.

I think I've got a plan. As Charlie's is running great yet his gearbox/clutch isn't quite right I think i'm going to pull his engine - put it in the highwayman. The Highwayman is the priority for reliability over the winter. Then rebuild the highwayman alloy headed engine over the winter at leisure - once engines out I can have a propper poke around and get the carb swapped. I can then fit one of my OD boxes onto Charlie in the spring with a nice new recon'd alloy head engine.

Yes, there's a balance pipe cast into the manifold at the top of the casting - where the vac connection is drilled.
