indicator stopped working now!

any ideas? the indicator just decided to stop working now!! i've checked bulbs, checked the fuse, the lights work when in hazard mode - does this mean its the indicator switch? i'm losing the will to live with this restoration, feels like one step forward 100 steps back... :( advice greatly appreciated.

Could be the indicator switch or the flasher unit, if the lights come on but don't flash then it's the flasher unit and you can get them from Halfords

i note you say indicator rather than indicators.........if its just the one then most probably its an earth problem:)

its both indicators, they were working perfectly then just stopped. tried the hazards and they flash/work perfectly. When i click the indicator switch theres nothing, no click no flash..just nothing so by my limited powers of deduction could this mean the switch? electrics arent my thing so i'd have to call someone out to this, but would need a rough idea of costs involved if anyone has any ideas??? and where to get cheapest but ok replacement parts.
there goes my first trip out in her up in smoke after a summer of getting her road worthy!

To me that sounds like there is no power getting to the indicator circuit. It's different to the hazard circuit. Have a look at the fuse box. It's usually attached to the metal strengthening bar above the pedals. It is a approx the size of a cigarette packet and will have a black plastic cover. All circuits are fed from this. Check to see if any wires have come off or broken. It does not sound like anything has actually failed.
Good luck! Hope you get it sorted and enjoy the van soon.

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...

See if there is power going to the switch (green wire) and then coming out. The flasher relay is separate to the hazard one and could be duff.

It's either the power to the flasher unit or the flasher unit itself. As Martin says, check for 12 volts at the green wire that goes into the flasher unit at the terminal on the unit. If it is 12v there, the flasher is duff. If there is 12v, you need to check all the connectors are fitted correctly. check the connection on the light green/brown wire going to the steering column switch (where all the wires connect going into the steering column) to make sure the bullet connect hasn't come apart.

My money is on the flasher unit. You should easily be able to find a replacement of a suitable type at a motor factors. Remove it and take it in and they should be able to supply an equivalent unit.

Agree with what Andy says but if these tests dont find the fault check the Hazard switch.

Its happened only once in my experience but a faulty hazard switch not doing its changeover job can leave usual flasher circuit disconnected. To explain a bit more >> hazard switch when operated changes power from ignition fed flashers to permanent live fed hazard circuit and then back again when you turn off hazards.

In case I found on a Reliant [don't laugh!]I had to replace the plastic bodied switch which had broken internally and its small metal contacts inside were not able to close
