Hobbyweld

This weekend my gas ran out. I use Hobbyweld No5 - Argon/Co2. I connected a new cylinder today, but my gauges are now doing funny things. The pressure gauge for the cylinder is constant when I open the valve, but the gauge for the adjustable flow ticks and flickers when I squeeze the trigger. If I close the valve on the cylinder and squeeze the trigger to let the gas out, the flicker and tick gets quicker and quieter, but curiously the gauge goes up before dropping to zero. There is a subtle difference between the old cylinder and the new. The old cylinder had a progressive valve which unscrewed gradually, whereas the new cylinder is either on or off in a quarter of a turn.
Do I have anything to worry about?

It sounds like the regulator is sticking, or being restricted. I wonder if the cylinder valve is starting to close again at it's open position, try turning it back a little.
