Highwayman Wanted

Hello all,

Myself and my wife have been looking around the internet for a couple of months for a Commer to buy, restore and use as a family holiday vehicle.

Specifically were looking for a Highwayman or may consider another cab over camper as we like the extra space they have. We thought we'd found one last week but the deal fell through.

If anyone hears of one or has one for sale we would love to hear from you. An Mot'd van would be ideal but not a must have we just want to find the most solid van we can for the money. I'd rather have more mechanical, electrical and interior work to do over excessive rust repair but I'm realistic enough that In my price range there will rust to contend with.

Not knowing how many Highwayman are still in circulation I have no idea if this will be a long or short search but hoping that someone on here will be able to help.

Hi guys and welcome to the Madhouse:D
A Highwayman is a good choice, of all the coachbuilt models the Highwayman was the most popular and many were made so they do crop up comparatively regularly. Good luck:)

Its good to know that they do come up fairly often. We had some money left from when we got married in the summer so thought we would put it towards something that we intend to keep for good. We went with the Highwayman to future proof ourselves and in the hope that it will become a way of us getting away for weekends and holidays when ever we want. We travel around to compete in Cornish Gig racing events from May to October so the camper also makes sense for those that are far enough from home to need to stop over - at the moment we use an inflatable mattress in the back of my Subaru estate!

Has anyone got a rough idea on price guidance? We have a certain amount available now but if were way off the mark I have every intention of selling my motorcycles in the Spring to either pay for renovations or add to the purchase pot.

Congratulations on getting married and good luck with your search for a highwayman.

Typical isn't it, cant find a single one for sale:I
Prices generally are on the up so I'd budget about £3000 - £4000 for a good one but expect some work to do. That's my opinion but I'm sure others have their own estimates:)
PS I wouldn't reveal how much you've got available in case prospective sellers are reading;)
