The first sign of madness it hoping to get 35 out of a Commer - unless you turn it into a solar powered/hydrogen celled hybrid ;). The best I ever got out of my old van (without OD) was 30mpg on a strict economy run never going over 45mph on good A roads measured on a tank full of juice, 23 - 28 was normal mixed running. The diesel would probably achieve your figure but they are noisy and slow. The engine I've fitted to my van, Harvey, should be interesting once it's on the road. Its a Sunbeam Rapier engine - basically the same but with an ally head - but commeracer has designed and made me a new inlet manifold to take an 1 3/4" SU, that coupled with a straight through exhaust system should make the engine much more efficient, I've also done away with the mechanical fan and water pump and fitted electric versions to release a few more horses all coupled to an OD gearbox. All this is untested at the moment but apart from gas-flowing the head I think I've gone as far as I can to help things along so watch this space and you will find out as soon as I do if the test bed actually works:I

Hi Panky, been reading through your thread bit by bit and still haven't got to your latest posts, will be interesting to see how yours does:)on the fuel. Incidently I've got to compliment you on documenting it all the way through, its going to save a lot of people plenty of time and money.

Have you got past the boring bit about the Mini yet:I

By the way I'm in Widnes, not exactly around the corner from you but close enough for you to join the Northwest Commervoy to Commerfest in August[8D]

Read the mini bit first then jumped to about page 25 sneakily in work.
Going back to where the mini finished now to try and swot up on the engine swap bit :D Is your engine the same as the one on e-bay ?

Hello and welcome, hope you find a van - my van is 1600cc no overdrive and I get around 23 - 25 mpg. It just wouldn't seem right to be economical.:I

Moley and Brian the Snail :)

If it's the one I'm thinking of that one is a 1600, mine is the later 1725 out of the fastback type Rapier. The front plate, water pump, alternator and sump need to be changed for the Commer ones.
