. The best I ever got out of my old van (without OD) was 30mpg on a strict economy run never going over 45mph on good A roads measured on a tank full of juice, 23 - 28 was normal mixed running. The diesel would probably achieve your figure but they are noisy and slow. The engine I've fitted to my van, Harvey, should be interesting once it's on the road. Its a Sunbeam Rapier engine - basically the same but with an ally head - but commeracer has designed and made me a new inlet manifold to take an 1 3/4" SU, that coupled with a straight through exhaust system should make the engine much more efficient, I've also done away with the mechanical fan and water pump and fitted electric versions to release a few more horses all coupled to an OD gearbox. All this is untested at the moment but apart from gas-flowing the head I think I've gone as far as I can to help things along so watch this space and you will find out as soon as I do if the test bed actually works:I

on the fuel. Incidently I've got to compliment you on documenting it all the way through, its going to save a lot of people plenty of time and money.
