Im worried my head gasket has gone and is pressuring the coolant system
Since I got the van I could smell coolant and its always run hot so I've fitted a new thermostat as I couldn't feel a good flow of hot water through the rad .
I've also cleaned out n flushed the block and the rad and fitted a electric fan to help with cooling .
But today it blew the top hose off and the van died
I checked every thing n it all looked ok just a bit wet but wouldn't run ??
All the plugs looked good and we're sparking
Eventually got it running after it had cooled right down but as soon as it got hot again it started to run ruff and not start plus water coming out of other hoses and the hoses are solid
Any thoughts ????
Colin said he'd had the head skimmed not long before I bought it so the head gasket hasn't been on long

Doesn't sound good[xx(] Have you got access to a compression tester, that would show if you've got a blown gasket.

Had a look today charged the batt tested the thermostat and got it running and filled the rad to the brim to do my best to bleed the system
Id had an issue with the hester being cold and when I pulled the pipe while it was running and nothing so put the hose on it till it came out the other end
Had to do this a couple of times till I got any flow
I then went round all the clips n tightening them up and fingers crossed its run ok still hot but felt like less pressure in the pipes
Took it up a big hill and needed to leave it in 2nd n it didn't like it cos it got really hot but soon cooled down so it's working but I ve no faith

I ll buy a compression tester
 
Trying to think of positives. It may be that you have had a blockage and you've shifted it with flushing but managed to air lock the system when you re-filled it. The new lekky fan could be causing a restriction to the air flow through the rad, was it running when the engine was getting hot today? Have you tried putting the heater on full to see if this brings the temp down?

It might be worth checking the valve clearances before the compression test, especially if it ran rough and not starting when hot.

It's definitely something serious its died a few times since blowing hoses off n leaking water and so it's off the road till next year I'm sort out the camper side off it then I'll strip the Engine n see what the damage is after I've compression tested it .
Hopefully next year will bring more luck as upto now I've not had any

If you do lay it up for the winter make sure you drain the coolant out just in case it is the head gasket - don't want water getting into the bores and rusting them up.
