Hi everyone. was wondering if anyone had seen the highwayman hammock is it a near extinct beast?! could anyone help me locate one please and do they fit all highywayman or only ones with the fixings? sorry if this is a stupid question but im going to be a new highwayman owner hopefully in two weeks so all info gratefully recieved. i,am as excited as i was waiting for my first child!!!!!!!!

Hi Clayton, the fitting for the hammocks are metal bars that slot into the window frames, I have bought a hammock with bars from Steve Williams (yet to collect) but I think they are all the same for new and old Highwayman, I would be happy to post pictures of the fittings when I have collected them in case you wanted to get some fabricated if you can't get hold of any. I think quite a few of the Highwayman still have them.

Hi Moley yes please. i,am obviously pretty new to the whole camping world so i,am trying to work out the best sleeping arrangement for the highwayman. 1 daughter ten years old, and the other just 2 n half. Thought about space above cab? n then obviously the hammock option seemed more sensible. Also what is the best way for strapping the children into rear seats? get some lap belts? sorry for all the questions just trying to get info'ed up!!! cheers

Sorry can't help with strapping kids in back, do a search because this has been covered I think by Bigmonkeyman and others. No doubt someone can paste the link.

Also layout depends on year of vehicle, most have double and small double in back and then avialability for hammock above small double, have a look at Kez's archive of brochures as it shows the layout for the Highwayman. I don't think you would want to put either above the cab as it's not like the autosleeper, no window

If the children in the back are side facing it is leagal and safer for them not to be restrained at all as it can lead to serious injury in the event of a collision. I'd put the youngest one up front with the driver to be on the safe side in the right seat.

I have side facing seats; the kids seat facing forwards with their legs stretched right out (like sitting on the floor) and therefore use front facing seatbelts.
