Grease guns

I'm currently working my way through our Commer, attending to the service items to hopefully ensure we successfully make it down to Somerset and back again to Norfolk at the end of June !

As I've never even used one before, I'm looking for recommendations of a decent grease gun to buy - or are they all much the same ?

Also what selection of nipples will I be needing ?

Cheers

all grease guns are pretty much the same although if you can get one that takes cartridge refills then its much easier to fill [:0]
all the nipples are standard sized (1/8 BSP thread) and easily available/replaced :)

I've found one with a flexible pipe with a nipple gripper on the end easier to work with - but that can be down to personal preference;)

There is a very wide selection of nipples to reach, some in very unexpected places[:0] - do you have a manual that covers where they are or do you need a copy sorting?

it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it[xx(]

If you have acess to a compresor I can recomend an air operated one
(They arenot that more expensive, I use a draper one)they make it easier when you have to grease a lot if points king pins stearing propshaft etc.

Thanks folks for all the info.

Really like the sound of cartridge based guns, I really wasn't looking forward to packing the grease in :(

Cheers for offer StudioCommer but I've already got a workshop manual, I'm just now becoming more familiar with it !

I've seen some suction based extractor tools locally, I'm guessing this could suck out some of the old grease before I repack fully with new grease. Does this make sense ?

Is grease still recommended, or EP 40 ?

I checked our manual last night and it states 'Retinax A', is this still used or is there a modern equivalent - what you all use ?

Thanks
