Funny sort of week

I had (and continue to have) this problem - luckily didn't twitch for test today. My lovely fella Glyn adjusted brakes up for me and poured oil down handbrake cable housing to get that as free as possible which did the trick - doesn't mean it won't start playing up tomorrow but was lucky today. All I can recommend is cross fingers and attend chapel diligently beforehand:D

From what I can remember there is a leading and trailing shoe if you get them mixed up it will affect the efficiency dramatically and if they are assembled differently to each other, big imbalance. The two shoes look very similar except the lining on the leading shoe is shorter. This one should be fitted on the side of the hub closest to the front of the van. If you need the diagram from the manual let me know and I will post here. Hope this helps.

Here you go.

am I also right in thinking there is a difference in componants according to year of some of the vans??sure I read some thing about it somewhere? something to do with change over 1977 same year as Ran!

Cheers Panky for the offer but i do already have a copy of the manual.

Went out earlier this evening to collect the van, drove it round the industrial estate, broke hard and sure enough vehicle lurched sharply to the left, to be honest that was infact the first time it had happened to me.

when i get some free time i will jack-up the van and have a closer look at the brake setup and hopefully solve the problem

Being short staffed and working 12 hour day shifts will not help, the funny thing is my next planned day of is Oct 20th.
And we all know whats happening that day.
