Funny old thing happened today...

I was out working a market today when an old guy came up to me (not unusual at all.) to talk about the van. He opened the conversation with "wow, glad you got the old girl going again, I often wondered if you'd fix her up, I used to walk past her out the front of your house every day" Funny thing really as I've never seen this guy before and Babs hasn't sat still for more than a day or two since I've had her. Anyway, long story short it turns out there's another PB, same colours, same year, same condition about 5 mins from where I was working today... He took some convincing I wasn't winding him up, that we were indeed talking about two different vans. Now trying not to get too excited I casually ask where this other van is and if he knew anything else about it. Turns out it had a for sale sign on it a while ago but he reckons it never sold and was still there a couple of days ago. Got home and google earth is my friend. There it is. An IDENTICAL van to Babs. I kid you not, you can even see an old coolbox in the back, thats the same as mine. What are the odds of that? My next problem is convincing my lovely patient and understanding other half we NEED a matching pair of Commers. Should be easy that. Day off tomorrow, think I'll probably have a little drive back over there and have an ask, It'd be rude not to.:D

another car was coming the other way so I slid the door open he wound down his window I asked if I could get back to the road if I carried on (was on a farm track :I )
he said no & my mates got one of those!!!!
unfortunatly I was panicking fuel level was low I wasn't on the ball :(

Well. Went and found this other Commer this afternoon, still parked up in the same position when it was captured on Google Street view...
Spoke to the guy, reckoned he'd had it a few years, bought it off someone up north, used it a few times but seems its been stood since last year. Not the early van it was thought to be, its on an R reg, just about to be a Dodge! Good news and bad. It is for sale:), but the owner wants about six grand for her[:0]. Didn't go ferreting about underneath but there didn't seem to be anything missing and a look over shows a fair bit of rust on the peak, a fair bit on the guttering, both cab door bottoms, both rear corners and some other odd bits and bobs of rust. (nothing unusual there then). Interior looks complete, not too bad inside just a bit messy. Considering some of the recent vans that have sold I'd put his estimate of what it's worth as optimistic to say the very least, but hey, it's his van. I've got his number if anyone's interested.

Sorry chaps, no photo's, my current poverty spec phone has a camera but it's as much use as tits on a fish. Indeed, in my very humble opinion it is an awful lot of money for a van that does need a fair bit doing. And funny enough Baz there was a mention or two about VW's. For a bit of a look google earth into Telford Road Braintree and have a cyber wander, not the best view but interesting to see.

When I got mine, last April off ebay, I paid £4100 for her, unseen but the advert said it was virtually rust free, "not your usual rotbox" was how it was described. It went straight to Martin who has found loads of rust. So the moral of the story is never buy a vehicle unseen as it can end up costing a fortune.
