Just about to change my fuel sender gasket for a new cork one as the rubber type that is on has a slight leak. Should I use any sealing compound or just rely on the gasket alone?
Cheers John, will give it a go. When I removed the sender whilst restoring the van there was just a rubber gasket fitted with no glue so thought a cork one just on its own may be sufficient. Have you used any glue in the past?
No I haven't but I've got Tim tanks on both vans and the sender is on the top. Cork gaskets with no sealer - they don't leak but then they are not permanently submerged in fuel.
All done with new cork one in place. When I removed the rubber one I remembered why I retained that one as it looks quite substantial with its recessed lip that fits into the tank neck. Is this an original fitment?
Aviation gasket glue is what i use, (still cleaning snake skin out of mine occasionally)its available in a small bottle of black gue thatalways remains tacky. Its great stuff and one of the only ones approved for aircraft/car fuel systems. Available from most car parts shops.
I usually make my gaskets, so they are a bit rough, as said above if you have a new one you may not need it.
Rain, hail or shine a Commer adventure awaits,,

Thanks for that, I did use a new gasket without glue and it worked perfectly but will keep that in mind. Just returned home after a fantastic tour visiting Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough [8D] will post some pics soon.
