fuel leaking hmmm

morning guys seem to have a fuel leak of some sort [i think]:Iwhen i tried to get the ol girl running [foot on the throttle]bit of choke there was a 10mm nut i think on the manifold central to the carb leaking fuel from it, what is this nut for? and is it leaking maybe because she is flooded ? god these new guys dont know anything do they lol:D
 
It sounds like the manifold drain. There should be a small tube at the base of the inlet manifold that dribbles excess fuel on to the exhaust (yes onto the exhaust [:0])Your tube may have broken off and all that is left is the nut that holds it to the manifold. The fuel dribbling syndrome usually happens if the float valve is passing or the float level is set to high. Try searching (search button at top right of page) the forum for 'fuel leaks' or 'manifold drain' and you should come across some of the discussions we have had on the subject before.

someone posted about the tray system he has on one of the vans.. moves the fuel away from host manifolds
 
I noticed this design nightmare when I changed the manifold for the Holbay one. I just assumed that some wally who had worked on my van in the past decided to vent the fuel to vapourise (or worse) on the manifold. Never realised it was a factory "decision"

just looking at this from an engineering point of view the fuel should never catch fire as it needs a flame for ignition whereas diesel is heat ignited! this was demonstrated to me by an old boss of mine who chucked his lit fag end into a tray of diesel fuel and when i returned from the other end of the yard all was well[V]:I
