First Commer

Well hello good forum you have and it pushed me to buy the green one with the wooden boat on ebay (look in the for sale)

Most of the interior wood work is rotten and it has no brakes at all but is seems ok ish except for the flaking nato paint. Im used to old cf's but really wanted a automatic and this fit the bill

The wood roof will be off shortly and ill post some pics

Welcome on board, Richard, and congratulations on your new Commer !! [^]

I must say that I love the colour, lovely dark BRG by the looks of it.

And I know the pain of rotten interiors.. I've got a '65 Highwayman which has suffered serious waterleaks as well where virtually all the plywood needs to be replaced. I hope to be able to use the old wooden skeleton/structure, and have bought myself an nice old 50s kitchen interior (had to dismantle it myself, but got it cheap) and hope to use the cupboard door fronts and the drawer fronts in the "reconstruction" work. Will be hard work, and won't happen this year, but will hopefully start the work some time next year.

All the best of luck with your project, and be sure to post pictures :p

regards
Jostein

Just thought id drop in a update - Few days spent ripping out the soaked insides wood with huge worms and what a stink!!! - Starting to deal with the brakes took me ages to remove the front drums but i have new shoes just hope i dont need cylinders. Im gobsmaked with the underside of the van - Mud and old underseal peels off to reveal shiny metal. Just wish i could afford the repair pannals for the sides but it will have to be filler and fiberglasss for now. Everyone seems to think i bought a vw though. Still havent decided what to do about the roof I may just sheet it or try find a s/h pop top

Hi Richard - welcome to the forum, congratulations on your new van[8D]

sounds amazing underneath, am liking the sound of shiny metal - good luck with the patching. Would love to see some pics if you have any available:)

Jons roof probably a better option but if you're ever passing the west wales area I do have a useable autosleeper pop up roof you can have - mostly cosmetic attention needed ;)

Hi Richard

I'm just about to break an Autosleeper with a good pop top and good interior. Located on the Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire border.
