Eyebolt and bush

Next job is to change top and bottom eyebolts and bushes, just out of interest can anyone explain the importance of the new bush when fitted sticking out the carrier such a precise measurement ?. I’ve just received 4 sets from Speedys rather expensive but great service from them, has anyone done there own modified pin/bolt and bush for the stub axle carrier because now I’ve seen them I can’t help think they could be a bit more basic design ??.

I assume it's to do with keeping the suspension geometry as near to factory settings as possible. A small difference at the eye bush would be magnified at the outer rim of the tyre quite a lot.

Hello Panky I understand the need for that but I would except it more if it was adjustable on the eyebolt once installed like on some other vehicles to centralise the bush accurately. Thanks for your reply though. a little update on the job the top bush was really loose in the carrier so I’ve made a new one 1mm over on the O/D and will reamer the carrier slightly for it.

Thanks I did ask last night if anyone had done any modifications to the setup ? Perhaps it’s taboo because it’s suspension, also I didn’t ask if there are any spare carriers about or are they like a needle in a haystack ??. I’d nearly got it out the workshop the other day but while doing the two blocked grease nipples heard play in the bush !, what’s that called one step forward and two back ?.

Not taboo I think it's just no one has thought about it and we've taken it for granted that the set up was OK, in fact I can't recall anyone else tackling this job. I've done the upper link bushes, which are similar type screwed bushes, and have the same kind of instructions for positioning, in this case to pre-load the spindle in the thread.

How about the spare’s availability ?, now Martin has all but stopped selling spare parts have we got any other go to people or places

Speedies is the main place but an ebay search sometimes gets results. There is also Rootes Spares in the Netherlands who stock some hard to get stuff. I'm sure there are others like Power Track for brake and clutch parts but can't remember just now.
