Electronic Distributior problems....

I fitted an electronic distributor today. I connected the live from the distributor to the live side of the coil and the ground from the distributor to the negative on the coil. I made a cock up initially and connected to positive to the wrong side of the coil. I changed it round as soon as I realised but the engine will not fire, I'm getting voltage (9v) at the coil but there is no spark at the plug? Have I shorted out the distributor and / or coil and messed them up?
 
Probably burnt out the electronic pickup in the dizzy.

At least the engine isn't knocking any more, not running I know but not knocking either:)
Just a thought - did you check the timing when you swapped the dizzies over?

No I haven't checked the timing. I will when I get a replacement distributor for the one which I've shorted out... I'm not doing very well at the moment.
 
The reason I asked is that if the timing is out then that could be the reason it's not starting, but I've just realised you said it wasn't sparking at all - scrub that:I

Yeah I shorted out the dizzy because I connected the 12v feed to the negative side of the coil along with the negative feed with the dizzy. Why? I have no idea. I think it was lack of sleep after the saturday morning breakdown problem...
 
Nothing to do with the gallon of cider then;)
