Electric water pumps

Hi all,
Upon investigating where the engine coolant was leaking from i found that the water pump was literally crumbling apart [xx(] so instead of replacing with the same i am thinking of going with an electric water pump.
Has anyone gone this route before and if so how did you go about it? should I get a new/after market radiator or will the existing rad suffice? Any suggestions greatly received:)

We have one on the Riley, which has gone from overheating to now overcooling, so its now on a speed control. Also have one on the J4.
No need for a different radiator. Its just a case of fitting it low down wherever you can, and plumbing it between the bottom rad hose and the original pump inlet. Take the guts out the original pump if possible and blank off the end (i can weld it up for you). Probably no need for speed control on a Commer, so just wire it to a switch. They shift the water round twice as fast and irrespective of engine speed, and can also be left running after switching the engine off to stop heat soak. :)

It's the way to go.
I fitted a Davies Craig designed for Aussie V8's so well up to the task - and you gain BHP without the fan driving the manual pump. A bit of fiddling and faffing but well worth it[^]
You will need to blank off the original pump but Tim can sort that out for you.
I didn't fit a speed reg - just drilled a little hole in the thermostat to keep the coolant circulating on warm up.

Hi All,

Silly question time:

If I converted to an electric water pump and electric fan, would I be able to use the fan belt for a supercharger and the alternator? It's either that or weld another pulley onto the crank pulley.

Unless anybody knows if there is a two row pulley from a rootes engine that bolts on...
 
I think you would need to look at a flat belt to drive a blower, I don't think a single V belt would be man enough for the job, but don't know of anything off the shelf that would fit.
