Electric cooling fan conversion

Ok so looked through forum and read a lot about removing fixed propellor fan an installing electric fan. Found kits for doing so but kind of a tight, so seeing if I can find another way. So far I've acquired a Bosch fan and radiator from a Mercedes Benz a class and removed the existing fan, this is awkward as had to first remove bonnet and then radiator. But have achieved it. Started engine and enjoyed the lower noise levels. Thinking I might be able to have a conversation with the wife above 50 mph now. The control of the fan has baffled me until yesterday I figured that the engine already has a temperature sender for the temp gauge, I'm hoping that it's thermistor style so I can use a pcb/relay to connect onto that. Will let you all know. Any advice would be grateful I'll take pics as I go if any one wants.
 
I used a switch (off a Fiat I think) to control the fan. I made a thermostat cover and included the take off for the switch but you can get hose T piece inserts that take a switch - which would make things easier.
 
Hi panky. Yeah I found a t piece with a thermostat housing, the proper job but it was £44. I must be able to find a more economical and sound solution. How did you make a thermostat cover ?
 
Oh I see. Thanks for pic panky. Yes very industrial. I've ordered a pcb £3.69 so when it arrives this week I'll see if it can read thermistor. If not I'll be raiding my plumbing fittings to accommodate thermoswitch to replicate what you've done.
 
Anybody have any ideas about which side of the radiator an electric cooling fan would go?

I want to ditch my fan to get that half a horsepower back dammit.
 
If you can make the space then put it on the engine side, a puller is more efficient than a pusher and get the biggest one you can fit in.
