do i have to pay road tax?

i recently looked through me manuel of me van. the registration is 1974 but on an mot certificate date of 1st usse is 1971. could this mean me van was made in 1971 and not registered till 1974?? if so anyone know how to find out if i have to pay road tax?

look the dvla up in the phone book, give them a ring, they are very helpful.they will tell you,if you ask what doc's you need if any.you should be able to go into your nearest dvla office, tell them you want to change the taxation class, there is a form you should be able to pick up from the post office, has to be a p/o that issues tax discs.butI think I filled one in while I was at dvla.

also what year of manufacture is on the log book? this may also be of help.

(I don't think the mot is proof of year built but approx date)
the last known address to write to is in the above link

am wondering if m.o.t. wasn't just a guess on the part of mot station because it wouldn't have had mot if it wasn't registered to use on public roads[?]
Can't think of a reason to MOT an unregistered vehicle.
Perhaps someone can think of why this would be?

Its just cos they rush the mot, more they do the more they earn?not so much now...but I do remember watching a guy mot my vw type 25('82)he put '80 approx on the mot even though I said it was '82

Last years' mot on the new computerised system meant that tester had to put '205' under model just to get computer to accept my van[:0][xx(]
