Hi,
after much messing about with different engine solutions finally deciding that i didnt want to angle grind my commer up to get a bigger block in I have decided to replace all of the fuel and electrics on the van to bring back reliablitiy.
the problem is that I have had a poor run with supliers or I am expecting to much.
I bought a webber carb from speedyspares 34iv after reciveing it I looked to see if the jets had been changed and I couldnt see anything regarding custom jetting. as far as I know this carb is for a 2ltr engine (landrover etc) and mine is a 1725 rootes so I asked speedy if they have special jetting, but I felt like I had spoken a different language. he was pleasant but didnt know and seemed no one had ever asked, he just said that other people bought them and they worked.
ok I guess that will have to do!
Next and more problematically was a distributer from www.ratsport.co.uk
I had seen the link on the bottom of someone on the forums website so I thought I would get new electrics from them.
I rang and a nice chap said they had them and the model was a 45d5 on their site, I asked if they had any in stock and I waited while I asked for help. amongst muffled voices I heard him say "we cant send that out it was sent back faulty" then he came back he said I could have one Thursday (it was Tuesday) I said ok and sat and wondered if I was going to get a faulty one.
as I was worried about this I rang back and asked to speak to the owner of the business, he said he hadent been seen for 6 weeks so I asked about ordering and the consern I had over getting fautly parts. Instead of reasuring me that a new one would be made, he told me how all the faulty ones get put back in the parts bin and re used, I explained that I wasnt really happy about this and I would think about ordering.
I decided to stop worrying and place my order, unfortunatly I didnt notice that they also stock 45d standard dizzys and I clicked the standard one, it turned up and I noticed the lack of electronics and so I rang to return/exchange it, again I got (in my opinion) Mr Grumpy. who said the returns department deal with it not him (strange as only 3 people ever answer the phone and it is a unit in an industrial estate but now there is a returns department that no one can talk to) he said they couldnt do an excange and when I asked if I could email my engine details so we can get it exactly right he said he would only take orders of the webpage so if there is a problem the customer can be blamed, super what is the point in going to a specialist if I need to be one to order it.
anyway I returned it and they charged me a re stocking fee and I lost a few quid fair play. but I really dont want to order another one of them as I am not confident and dont like their service.
I have found some other suppliers the main one is http://www.simonbbc.com/electronic-ignitions/electronic-ignition-conversion-kit-lucas-25d-distributor-talbot
but I have some questions if anyone can answer help would be apprechiated.
MY DISTRIBUTOR IS A TYPE 25 MODEL 41043A and it is of a 1725cc year1967
is a 45D4 a straight swap?
is the 45D4 an upgrade (ie more accurate as the engine doesnt care what dizzy it has as long as the spark happens at the right millisecond)
has anyone else fitted an electonic dizzy like me and have you found any problems (ie wrong timing curve etc?)
folloing is some data for this dizzy.
