Commers in Melbourne

Hi,
Love this forum. I have recently found three commers, after searching for a while.

The Van you see is a 64 Series II. Its very rusty but it does start and move up and down the road.

The Commer bus (LBXXX) is also a Series II, The body is in great condition, almost 98% rust free. The motor has spun a bearing, so it being taken out to be re-build. Once running, i will have it re-painted. It was a bus and it has lights in the roof, but nothing in the back.

The third one is also a van, with a ok body, again an early one. No motor of box. I need to pick it up in a few weeks.

I originally wanted a milk van, dont ask why. So i may cut up the very rust one to make my milk van. Given it needs a fair amount of rust work anyway.

I dont seem to be able to find many pictures of resored early commers, most on this forum are the ones with orange blinkers and white lights. Mine only seem to have the one white light.

Bye

Excellent to see another Commer in Melbourne. They will be as common as commodores soon.
Love the color of the green one.
What part of Melbourne are you from. Im in Mentone, S/E suburbs. Near Moorabbin airport and DFO.

wow what an early haul!

There are few PAs one here most under restoration at the mo (as chris pointed out the one you see most office is mine on the top left in the forum logo!)

I think the climate over here has made them few and far between!

Welcome and we can't wait to see any projects as they move along

I think you may tempt woolfy into a grand tour of australia; that or emigration!

If you feel like selling a restored van give me a shout [8D]

I am in the North of Melbourne, in Pascoe Vale. Also near the DFO !

The bus is going to get the most attention as its virtually rust free. Will put a few more pics as the work progresses.

Is there any photos of a restored bus like mine ? Need some inspiration.

Re the color, its green on the outside, but blue on the inside, not sure if it has been repainted.

Bye

I know this is not strictly a commer thread BUT !

I know a guy who has two TS3 engines. He wants a fair bit of money for them as they are setup for Boats.

Having heard the TS3 engine sound on youtube.com, the though of a knocker in a commer sounds interesting..but not having seen a TS3 i dont know how big they really are. :)

Wow that's excellent 3 PA's in 1 day :p
Thank you for posting, concider seriously restoring all 3 as they are quite rare [8D]

Very rusty he says, take a look on Chris's drive if you want to see very rusty ;) That van just has tatty character. To use a dark-side phrase I would call it rat-look with a nice patina :D

once again nice vans over there.what i want to know is whats going on we are being over taken by the aussies in the van stakes. oh well at least we are still better at cricket. how come i can only see two pictures of vans wheres the third one.:p;)

why is it that the vans over there look so cool compared to the ones over here ,they just seem to have that cool factor. or is it just me who thinks this.;):p

I agree Woolfy - definetly got something. Patina, sun bleached paintwork, just enough rust and being PAs all really do it for me

Thanks for all the nice comments.

I would really like to see a picture of a restored or nice early PB bus or van. As i said all i have found are the orange blinkers at the front version, not the single white blinker.

There must be some "LBXXXX" ones in the UK, surely. I would like to see what a commer bus looks like.

The big hole in the RHS apparently is from a filler to fill the internal water tank...I was told this but not sure. The chassis number is defnitely LBXXXX and there are six lights in the roof lining. I think it even has the original radio.

It looks like it has been painted green, as its flaking off and i can see blue, same as the inside.

Looks more like a gun port on a man-o-war [:0]

This is another pic of the most rusty, but running commer van. Its a Series II, 1964.

Number 3, is also a van, but i have not picked it up yet, this is the only view of it, hope the other side is in similiar condition. This one had the motor in pieces in the back, so transplant will be in order when i get it.

I now have a complete factory, parts and handbook manuals for these, I was also lucky enough to get two original brouchers for these and they are just stunning.
