Commer PB Builder’s Pick Up

It’s been a long time since I posted on here but just to let you know I’ve still got the old girl (seven years now!) She’s still ferrying my old horticultural machinery to working events. My latest toy is at the upper limit of her permitted load and yes she does adopt a somewhat lower profile but gets where I’m going ok. I’ve basically not done anything to her over the seven years (apart from oil/filter changes etc) but I’m thinking of maybe rewarding her with a potentially expensive trip to the garage sometime to deal with oil leaks from gearbox and diff, and a list of other minor stuff that I would like done.

It's been way too long :) Still a great looking truck and the impromptu lowering suits it:cool: We love to see a Commer doing good work and in such great condition too

Hopefully I’ll remember!!
Does anyone know of any other builders pickups still on the road?
I know there’s a few standard dropsides. I seem to remember there was one or possibly two builders versions around a few years ago?

I've got a high sider I made when taking the old camper bit off. I use it for lugging bits around sometimes but mines just heavily modified and engine swapped

On the basis I shouldn’t neglect the old girl any longer she’s currently in the garage. Work includes:full service, new gearbox and diff seals, engine rope seal, injectors out and cleaned, new clutch, fix not working cold start and horn, front suspension wishbone repair kits.
Only got to figure out which of my body parts will have to be sold to pay the bill at the end…..

Who did the rear canvas bit? If you did it would you do another? I'm desperate for something like that for mine!!!
I had it made by Allied Canvas. Took the pickup to them with old canvas they are near Rockhampton. have you got hoops ?

Well, all work to truck now done. What a transformation! Clutch action lighter (had to have new one in the end), steering lighter, brakes lighter, wallet lighter….
New steering bushes have cured its wanderlust. Refurbished injectors have improved cold starting and reduced smoking. And joy of joys, virtually no oil leaks! I say virtually, the new engine rope seal isn’t fully oil tight but I’m given to understand they never were from new.
A very knowledgeable acquaintance who’s repaired loads of old engines opined that if the Perkins engine isn’t leaking it’s broke!
On the plus side the garage mechanic said he was amazed how good condition the body is in. So oil leaks aren’t all bad!
