Commer Highwayman in Sutton

Hi all,

Been watching the forum on and off for about two years now and my fiancee and I are very keen to join the mad house and get a commer of our own!

Spotted one in the Friday Ad the other day. Its a 72 highwayman in Sutton and the MOT has run out. I spoke to the seller who says he has had it 20 years, its got a recon engine and has had a new petrol tank. Its for sale for £1500 but as its got no MOT he will accept £1200. Number is 07981 675555.

I'd go and have a look but we are really after a pop-top style commer. If anyone has a nice on the road pop-top, ideally pre-73, in reasonable conddition for about £2k let me know!

Aha -- another victim who has dared to enter[}:)] Welcome to the Madhouse, come out of the shadows (two years in the dark[:0]) and show yourselves. Good luck in your search but quite frankly I'd do a deal on the Highwayman so you can get mobile and move over to a pop-top later - that is if you don't get too used to all that lovely coach built space:D He says he will accept £1200 - offer less (hope he's not listening:I).

It is very tempting. I'm quite keen but the future wife prefers the possibly more cute pop-top variety. Also lack of MOT and anywhere to store it while sorting out the problems is a bit of an issue! I'll see if I can pop by and take a look....

Well I've already done a bit of roving for you :D I've known about this Commer for many years and have a few pics of it. As you can see, it's not bad nick, but I think the front panel has been hand painted and there's a bit of plod in the drivers door. But it's all there and well worth the money. I think whoever bought this would be a very happy chappy. I hope this one goes to a good home.

Plus its got a sky dish for a wing mirror!?

DJL we have an autosleeper and before last weekend we thought we much prefered them to the Highwayman. However seeing the few at the meet (pics in the cambs meet topic in chat) made us realise how silly we were. They were stunning, very stylish and of course more room!! We wouldn't hesitate buying one now, whereas before we would of!

Hi there David and welcome. Did you see the Dodge Highwayman on e-bay this week? Not sure if it's still up for sale but the interior was just lush. You can do lots and lots to the coachbuilts too. Nearly move down your neck of the woods a couple of years back. Portslade. There must be a few Commer's floating around Brighton surely?

Don :D;)

They are different Vans. The link you have posted is for a Dodge Commer, not a Commer Commer!

I know Jon, i was pointing him in that direction so he could see what you can do with Highwayman's internally;-)

Whoops, i had seen Mr Rusty's reply but not what you had wrote soon after! That'll teach me to use my eyes abit more! I'll reply later in the appropriate thread but i'm really enjoying listening to your myspace!

I'm surprised no one has picked up on the Dodge, the interior is really nice.

Hellooo... been chatting to the future wife! Trouble we have is that whatever we get will be our only wheels, so its got to be practical for us both to drive. While I think the highwaym(e?)n are pretty funky I think the smaller, less bulky wanderers would be better for us to trot around town in as well as for camping excursions. Also we don't have a drive and the parking round here is obscene and I'd have thought the wanderer would be easier to park.

Scott - I'm a Porslade boy. Oddly haven't seen any Commers around Brighton. Dark side vans all over the place though!
