commer body ingredients

hi there, couple of beginner questions for you!

What is the Commer body made of (apart from rust lol)?
Were they initially manufactured with metal panels? And was fiberglass used later on? Nowadays, what is most commonly used for repairs?

Second question:
How many people can legally travel in a van? Does it depend on the seats/belts available? Or are there no rules (I doubt)?

Well the van types are all steel. The coachbuilt types are generally aluminium skinned, wood framed with some fiberglass bits :)

Passengers depends on the number of seats, until you get to about 12 then it starts to become a minibus i think :)

Steel panels are available form woolfy and Martin Maltas, who also supplies some fibre glass panels too:)

Didn´t think it was wood framed, interesting! I presume most of the fibreglass is along the top of the van, where less structure strength is needed? I guess this would explain the large amount of rust found around windows and lower parts on many vans...

I´m not interested in panels now (don´t even have a Commer! lol) but thanks anyway.
 
It's only the coachbuilts that are wood framed. They start of with a chassis-cab (basically a pick-up without sides) and build a caravan body on the back:)

I don't really understand the original question. You see the vans are made of metal, any fibreglass would be either a raising roof added by the campervan converter or a high top van "lid" or a coachbuilt on to a wood frame as described. For the camper vans they would saw a hole in the metal roof.

But commers are made from metal

About that time most vehicles were made from crap, sorry scrap, metal, one of the worst was vauxhalls, they were noted for it
