Chasis numbers

Not really a technical query - but didn't seem to fit anywhere else... I am wondering whether anyone knows of a chassis number database for commer pb -derived vehicles. Its east if you have a BMC / Leyland vehicle as the British Motor Heritage Trust can provide all the details but is there an equivalent Commer / Rootes database ? The reason I ask is that I have a highwayman which is listed as manufactured 1974 on the V5 - but have ben told quite often the base vehcile / chassis or even the completed campers sat around for a year or two before being sold. If it was made before Jan 1st 1973 it may be tax exempt regardless of its registration date - so a database of when vehicles came off the production line would be really useful - or failing that any differences between a 1972 and 74 model which can be verified for the DVLA ? I know its a long shot but maybe you can help.

you could try contacting Renault Trucks in Dunstable, Luton, who should have a record of date of manufacture - did this with mine hoping for the free tax (since it had been registered in 77 for use in the RAF) - came up as Aug 10th 76, so no luck unless they go back to 25 years and older. (i put an address to renault trucks on another thread about walk thru's)

i wrote a letter to Colin Hope, address:

Renault VI UK ltd
Boscombe Rd
Dunstable
Beds LU5 4LX

tel. 01582 47 11 22

this might've changed now, but i think the number still works. they've also got old brochures, etc which they'll copy for you if you ask.
