Cast iron head or alloy?

Hi all I'm new to the forum after my recent purchase of a 1974 model registered 78 Commer highwayman, I'm looking to do some engine work such as flush and replace oil and filter, check rocker clearances, clean and refurbished carb.. to start.

One question is how do I know if its cast iron or alloy? I dare say a magnet would tell or maybe I'm wrong! I turn to the seasoned experts.

Regards

Hi and welcome :)
This is the alloy head on my van

If you've got a Zenith carb bolted to the top then you will most likely have an iron head. If you post a picture of your engine bay we can say for sure.

Hi and welcome. If you are still unsure then yes try a magnet or with a small flat screwdriver score a small bit with a bit of pressure the alloy head will leave a small mark and the cast one will just scratch along the surface or a bit of sand paper the alloy will be shiny, cast will be darker.
