Breaking My 1983 Dodge Postbus

I think its just a sign of the times.
The vans are well worth what Alan wants but very few people have any sort of spare cash around at the moment for what is essentially a toy, just look at the trouble Woolfy is having getting 4.5k for his panel van! I dont personally think the panel vans will ever command as much as camper version simply because the campers are a far more usable and practical classic than the van, very few people are going to want to use a panel van as a works van on an everyday basis but a camper can be used for so much more.
No one dislikes you Alan as far as I am aware, why would they your a decent fellow, but every one has there own opinions on things and it would be a sad boring world if we were all exactly the same.
Its a pity your having trouble selling the vans but I honestly think its our dire economy that is to blame nothing else, I have been self employed in the motor trade for over 30 years now and I have never known it as bad as it is now.
Keep the faith:)

Bloody Commer`s!

I agree with Alan times are hard
a good time to sell in the new year
could go to bug jam or similar events would get
some interest even drive around as much as possible
good luck

"You,re only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

got to agree with beachboy and chris, times are difficult
problem is the bt van is a bt van, weve got two panel vans the competitions one and the early pa one which we wanted for specific purposes, never advertised them for sale but have been offered mega bucks for them when shown at the nec
ebay is an auction house only and its suprising how many people especially older ones with a bit of money to burn dont use it,so
its the nec show this weekend, the supervista wont be ready and we were taking the cob.we are more than happy if you want our space to take the bt van and show it to a specialist audience.its an ideal oppertunity to showcase a great van to wider audience

Jon,
Even if I did the wheels and finished the BT van off I wouldn't get £6000 for it, Its the only one you are likely to find in that condition! and its as near mint as you will get. It owes me £7000 now! I feel a bit insulted by your comments that its not finished to a high standard, have you seen the underneath? Both Martin M and myself have put a lot of time and effort in to the BT van. X-Box I understand what you are saying and would have hoped that it was worth around 2500 to someone? If I made into a minter I wouldn't get much more for it! I won't say what it owes. A lot more than its up for sale at.

To be honest I was looking for some hope from you guy's but looks like am not liked that much on here. You all take care. Alan.

I WANT CAKE

Having read the replies above I feel I may have gone a bit OTT with my reply earlier and would like to apologize to you all. When I first bought X-Box I was all enthusiastic about the vans (I do love them really) but with me not being a mechanic sadly I can't do a lot of work myself! Am a musician as some of you may know and Have to watch my fingers!(not to lose them)

I have had one thing go wrong after another with X-Box and the BT van and having spent a small fortune on them and they still aren't right I have loss my enthusiasm. I do drive X-Box about and I would love to have bought the BT van (Fred) to the NEC. However the steering box is leaking badly and a fuel leak! and he needs finishing off and with my work load I can't make it but thank you for the offer. Maybe I should just store him until next year and maybe I will get my enthusiasm back? Sorry I have hijacked the guy's thread. I just wish I could do the work myself and save a bit of money and am sure as you can understand I don't really want to spend anymore. Thanks for the replies and offers of the NEC and you guy's have a great time. Who knows maybe next year me and "Fred" will be showing off!;)

Hi-jacking is good - makes thigs interesting and a bit random (I hate being organised:))
Storage is definitely the next best option to actually being able to use the vans, don't worry your mojo will return and come the summer you'll wonder what you where thinking of;)

I never went away...?? :(

Hope I don't stoke the whole thing up again, but classics are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. This is not directly related to how much has been spent on them. To make money on buying, restoring and selling classics you have to be seriously good. Not just an enthusiast.

I've owned probably a hundred cars and made money on about two of them. I have a good habit of buying a model and then selling just before they become highly sort after.[V] On that basis, if you ever see me selling Muttley, don't consider selling your Dodge, as they will rocket in value in the following 12 months.

Alan, I love your Post Office van and cross posted it onto retro rides. As someone here already said though, it is, and always will be, a BT van. You can't use it for your own business, you can't use it as a camper, you can't use it for carting the family around, and you would be mad to use it as a daily commuter or parts hauler as its too nice. So it is essentially a (very) nice to have. And that's something a lot of folk can't afford right now. Especially in the run up to Christmas.

Finally, to the original OP. Where abouts are you? Is the name a dead give away or is that too obvious? lol:I

I've now sold some of the spare parts I had but have the majority of the whole vehicle left (engine box running gear and the body etc!)is there anyone out there that would like to save it (for scrap value) before it gets weighed in? The glass is gonna go on ebay but if someone wants the whole thing we can work something out! and there is loads of seats with it!
