Brakes ! ERRR!

I'm having problems adjusting my rear brakes, the shoes have approx 3mm of lining but the micron adjuster dos'nt seem to push them out far enough to lock the drum. does anyone now what the problem is "ITS MAKING ME SO ANGRY".......help.........please

It could be that the adjusters themselves are worn or the seating on the shoe where the adjusters sit or even oversized drums- I know I've replaced shoes and even when new there's not much adjustment to begin with. I actually folded a little strip of sheet steel around the the recess in the shoe where the adjuster sits to allow for some of the wear in the mechanism.
The was a discussion on the Morris Minor forum about the same thing and one of the points raised was that when our cars and vans were first made the linings were riveted to the shoes and was thicker compared to the bonded ones we get now, so this could be the issue.

Thanks for reply Panky,I measured the drum its 9 inches not much wear. the adjusters & shoes dont look to bad either.Does 3mm of lining sound as though the shoes are worn out? I might try spacing the adjuster out before I buy new shoes.

If you have to get new shoes soon you might as well replace them now as you have it all apart and if it solves the problem, win win.

So I've taken my brakes apart, the shoes look far to good to bin, they are the riveted type & the linings havn't worn down any where near the rivets.
So I cleaned every thing, put it all back together & still couldn't adjust them,so I took out the micram adjusters & bent apiece of 1mm steel around the bottom of the cradle ,so its between the adjuster & the wheel cylinder, put it back in & bingo it works.I did have to put 2mm in the off side to get it to lockup.
