Brake Pipes

I'm after a some brake pipes for my Commer lorry thought someone on here might know of some somewhere.

I got one at Beaulieu but need a pair, they are Lockheed, part no. KL49108.

Any local motor factor should be able to make them up for you.

Hoping to find them already made up, the one I got was only a fiver and the longer one on the back the same.

I used Automec many years ago for my Frogeye re-build, they were very helpful.

They will only sell you sets. Any decent factors will make up an individual pipe for you.

Not if you buy a cheapo Draper kit like I did - it snapped 2nd time I used it... actually, it might have been user error :I
 
Mine was really cheap and worked a treat - I borrowed Macker1's SP one :)

I bought a set from them then knackered one of the pipes. I called them and they were happy to sell me a single pipe. This was 15 yrs ago so they may have changed since then.

We have a nold Seddon Atkinson lorry, the power steering pipe split so after a lot of debate we got someone else to make it. He said it would be with us in a day or so and wasn't too bad to make. When we got it he hit us with a bill for £93!!

Just got a quote from a Classic car parts place and they want over £20 per brake pipe, seems steep when I got the other one for £5 from another parts specialist, just a shame they could only supply one at that price.

Just begs the question, if they are both proper 'shop' type dealers how can one charge £5 and the other over £20? for the same part?

I thought that at first but upon speaking to the guy he says they are new old stock and available straight from the shelf.

Just take the one you have to an old school garage or motor factors, they should be able to make one up for you in no time for a reasonable price, or just give Automec a call and see if they can oblige?

I got my local garage to make me up a short length with a couple unions and flared ends for my old Mini once. They just told me to stick a couple of quid in the charity box.
 
Very Happy.

Went up to the Great Western Autojumble at Shepton Mallet yesterday, took the old brake pipes as pattern and one chap had a couple brand new. Fiver each and they were safely in my bag!!

Lots of Vdubs at the show but no Commers, I drove up in one of the Hillmans.

I guess it also depends on the size of pipe, and the length of the brake pipe. I know that 1/4" pipe is rather more expensive than the 3/16th used on most cars for brakes, having used both pipes to make up the brake, clutch and fuel lines for my chamois.

What diameter pipe do you need?
