Blocked fuel jets/Crud in fuel line??

Needed to move Bumble last night. Started on full choke fine, drove off the drive, the it cut out and would not start. Not the battery. Thought it was flooded, so left it a few hours and tried again, would not start. Left it overnight, still would not start. Gave up and called the RAC. He couldn't get it started. Changed the plugs. Tried and tried and eventually it started. Think there is crud in the fuel or maybe now in the carb? Think we have a 40mm SU carb. Is there a cleaner would we could run through the fuel? Or do we need to get the system cleaned? Would be grateful for some advice please. Images for tax. Thank you

Still looking lovely :)
If it is fuel related and, if there's a filter in the line from the tank, take it out and see if there's any blockage. I'm pretty sure Bernie took the tank out and thoroughly cleaned it out so hopefully there's very little debris in there. Try removing the air filter and squirting a little bit of fuel or carb cleaner directly into the carb and attempt a start, if it coughs and runs briefly then it most likely is a fuel problem.
A blocked air filter could also give the symptoms you describe so removing it will prove that point.
To actually find out if fuel is getting through remove the end of the fuel line to the cab, place the end in a jar, or other suitable container, and crank the engine over on the starter, if fuel pumps out then the system is clear. Final point is how old is the petrol in the tank? Modern ethanol fuels can 'go off' in quite a short time and can cause poor starting and running.

Thanks Panky! We did get it going, eventually. Whatever the problem was it seems to have 'blown through' but we will follow all your advice above. Is there some fuel additive we could run through it. We always fill with E5 but it still has ethanol in it. Last filled up in June, but not filled. We use a lead additive too. We try not to leave fuel in the tank and haven't gone too far recently as I've been v poorly. Truly appreciate your advice thank you!

We put fuel stabiliser in ours, it’s meant for lawn mowers but works in anything running on petrol. Makes the petrol last a lot longer.

I believe to clean the carb out you can also just use compressed air and aim it into the jets. I’ve never done this myself though.

Hopefully your health woes are a thing of the past and you can enjoy your van again :)
I use Millers VSPE Power Plus

Not a cleaner as such but protects from ethanol damage and gives a little extra boost,
There are fuel system cleaners out there but I can't comment on their effectiveness as I've never used one.

Redex has been around for years so must do something

I used to use the Briggs and Stratton one - great for winter lay-ups but use the Millers stuff now
