Bike carbs

Anyone done it to a Commer?

I'm thinking perhaps a twin carb inlet manifold and alloy head from a from a Hunter with the carb flange removed and four bike carbs fitted one to each 'stub'. It's been done many times on all sorts of cars and it my be an option when considering the lack of space for carbs as the bike ones can be quite small individually.

Something like this plus an air-box set up:

Sunbeamsam is having a go at this set-up - assisted by the welding skills of commeracer :p

Commeracer's J4 is running on bike carbs from what I remember at the Coventry meet. Throttle bodies and injection might take up less space, but I can't think of a non-expensive way of doing it other than converting bike carbs which sounds like a lot of effort.

Ah yes, an interesting topic indeed :p
Yes i am doing a manifold for Sam to take 4 cv mikuni,s
and the j4 runs a single 40mm amal bike slide carb [^] there was a kit in the 60,s to fit 4 amals onto mini,s and it worked well [8D]
bike carbs are more advanced instruments generally and are well catered for in terms of jets/parts.
One carb per cylinder is the best way to get maximum throttle response and economy, as each carb can be jetted to each cylinder, it does slightly cut max bhp in favour of a wider power band, which is more useful anyway.
plenty of sizes to choose from, but be careful with sizing cv carbs as they flow differenty to slide ones ;)
i tend to stay away from cv carbs as most have rubber diaphrams which perish and cause trouble.
the best on the market are Keihin FCR flatslides, the dogs danglies and sizes up to 41mm, i bought a set for the Riley (still to be fitted) for £400, which is little more than the cost of one DCOE Weber or a pair of S.U,s.
