My dad still has his 70s tent. Unfortunately it would fill the back of the commer as the pole bag alone is the size of a large person

We used to take our (orange and blue) tent on longer trips. It was three berth, so Mum and Dad would sleep in the van and us three kids would sleep in the tent. You are correct, it did fill the back of the van. The canvas filled the bottom half of wardrobe, the pole bag lay on the floor and we had a rolled up piece of foam for the sleeping compartment, which was suspended inside from the roof. This was all fitted into our Wanderer along with everything we needed for a trip of four or five weeks. We didn't put it up for overnight stops, so I'm not sure how we coped with five sleeping in the van. I seem to recall we stored surplus equipment under the van.

Come to think of it... I've still got my first orange and blue nylon tent somewhere, single skin early 80's one
