Automatic

Hi guys what do you all think about automatic in a commer camper I've never had a automatic and always have thought it would cost a arm and a leg if it go's wrong. [8]

I always thought autos are more ecconomical maybe
that was with v8 s though & more expensive if they go wrong

Slower and thirstier:I The torque converter absorbs engine power so the overall effect is less power to the wheels.

can't really comment on a standard commer engine and auto gearbox set-up :)

Rob, sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday.

I know Paul Goldsmiths gone AWOL again but there may be a decent engine and gearbox going that I know of, not that it is fair that you have to pay for one again.

Has anyone heard from Paul Goldsmith?

Nowt wrong with auto's in general but some applications are better than others. I had an auto Sierra and the official figures made it actually a bit quicker off the mark and only a couple of MPG shy of the manual. I read a road test of an auto Mini years ago, very advanced with it's 4 speed shift, the reviewer described the driving experience as 'hilarious'. The fuel consumption did really suffer - I wouldn't be happy with 25 - 30mpg for a Mini:I
