Aus No 8 and Oldie

Hi

I picked up this odd looking commer. Its complete less engine and trans.

It does not have the radiator hole in the front like all the others.

Great if any other members can comment on it.

PS: I had to evict the goats that were residing in it. Had chicken wire over the empty engine bay..lol.

mate that's quite a find!

An early PA; because of the single side lights, the lack of an air intake as you spotted and the three lines across the front (which were once chrome bars), and the old one piece badge :D

WOW !! That is some find! [:0][:0][:0]

I notice that white probaby isn't the original colour either, but that lovely deep/dark red colour :p (judging by the colour behind the missing badge and missing chrome strips on the front panel)

And being a panel van, this really is terrific!! Congratulations, Phantomrose ! :):)

This would be the sort. The red van on the picture.

Thanks for the photo Jostien, i will have a closer look at the color when i get it. But the inside was not red, more a light blue i think.......

I would like some idea what year it is...

I'm probably not the best to answer on model year here, but I'd guess this van of yours would be a MY60 - MY62.

I could be wrong, but I think that front was revised for MY63 when air intake was introduced in the front panel. This intake was hidden by a mesh grille and the three horisontal chrome strips until approx august 1965 when the front was revised more thoroughly with new "proper" grille and separation of the indicator and sidelight from one combined lamp (as it would be on yours) to two separate lamps.

Think the reason for the introduction of this air intake was poor cooling trough the sole existing intake under the front bumper, and that this led to overheating issues.

Pretty sure there will be some more info on this somewhere on this forum, and if memory serves me right it has been provided from somebody else from down under :)
Great family this, don't you think?! :D Commer-input from all over the world [)]

Admin,

Out of interest, do you know who's that blue LHD windowed van on the bottom is? :p
I see wooden houses in the background and narrow white rear plates on that Volvo parked opposite... U.S. or Canada?

It must be impfected - we haven't heard from him for a while :I

'Harvey the RV'

it,s as Panky says, Impfected AKA Alan Peterson of Seattle USofA who is also an avid Hillman Imper.
He has/had 2 vans which were pictured on here somewhere.

And, Phantomrose, according to the "Rootes-Chrysler" page, I'm wrong on the production changes on the second radiator vent. It seems to have been introduced as early as 1961 on the series two van (1500 forward control).

So your van should be either a 1960 or early 1961 series one - unless export or overseas manufacture comes into play (which would probably mean that it could be anything... as Vauxhall Victors still are being produced in India, I think, which can hardly be said to match Vauxhall's regular lineup of 2009 [xx(])
