Aus No 5, 6, and 7.

I am now have 8 of these lovely Vans. Perhaps i should have collected the corgi versions, take up less space.

No 5 has a nice body, but you would not beleive what has been done to the chassis. The front rails where the crossmember bolts on has been cut out from No 7 and welded UNDERNEARTH the existing chassis. Then to make space for the upper wishbones, he cut out the chassis sections of the actualy van. Why ? to fit a toyota engine that was higher than the original !!!

This van is at least complete in the chassis section.

No 6 below.....

An poor no 7. This lovely windowed van, has it chassis cut out from the front and and welded underneath the chassis of No 5. The tail lights were also cut out for mods. But the rest is rather rust free.

Poor No 7 Beloe....

The motors and drive trains and other bits, are in an open field, bit like an easter egg hunt, but for blocks, heads, and most other commer bits..

wow!!! where is this field [:0][:0][:0] I want an easter egg hunt like that:p

An amazing collection you have there, sounds like some of them have had a harder time than the corgi collection:(

oh wow those look like a couple of nice finds there, but what i would really like to know is what type of car or hot rod is that to the left of the picture behind number 6, it looks fantastic, i love those old 40s and 50s american motors.;)

I need spare pannels, and its a choice between no 6 or 7, which gets the axe... Maybe no 7, but i really like the windowed vans. So maybe no 6, but is quite good and no chassis damage......doh....the more i get the more i resist cutting them up for spares..

The cars in the back are early buicks. 37,38,39. They have straight 8's and easily hit 100mph. They owner is nuts about these and spent an hour explaning the intricate details of them. The early ones have a wooden frame / chassis, with metal skin. hmmm....at 100Mph and no airbags / crumple zone or ABS....... much more scary than the commers.

I quite liked the buick straight eights...

you see no 1, is very badly rusted, the whole windscreen surround is toast ! not to mention many of the ther other pannels. BUT it does start and move !

It was the first commer i got, so must look after it, and it has the single blinker.

decisions, decisions - bit like a vegetarian going out to the rabbit pen to pick dinner[:0]

You'll have to get Woolfy over for a holiday in exchange for an intensive course in panel fabrication;)

sounds like my ideal dream holiday:)

My local mechanic has given us on trying to do an engine swap on my commer, on the basis of:

1) he does not have a drive on hoist to lift it. He only has a 2 post, with the swing out arms.

2) he is adamant that the engine cannot be lifted out from the inside.

Appreciate comments on point 1)

Very dissappointing.

Hi, Phantomrose

I'm no mechanic, but I think it goes like this:

1) Martin has his own recipe on how to get the engine out from underneath here: http://http://66.129.69.181/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2568

2) According to the manual, engine is indeed supposed to be lifted out through the side door. (Wisdom stolen from Admin in his mail on same page as above...)

So now you know, and can teach your local mechanic a Commer-lesson :D

that pa is lovely. As the sign on the side of it says for sale, I'll buy it - whats the postage like?;)

The engine certainly does come out from inside. A bit fiddly I think and you need to be able to roll the crane back across where the seats are.

Dozer converted a van and fitted a ford V6 (its now somewhere in edinburgh after having been round europe!) so engine swaps are doable.

I like the hoist setup used to drop the running gear out...

Am still annoid at the garage, as i dont have time to play at the moment. The bus has spun a main bearing, as i was told when i bought it. Never fired it up.

I bought another good running block n heads, so need to do the swap over, inc timing chain /cover, water pump..etc.

The local garage add another reason for not wanting to do much, "...it has lots of spiders in it.." it was from a farm. Maybe i should get join two car covers, top and bottom and fumigate it ! ha

the PA was expensive and my first one, paid $A600 for it, delivered to my house. The next two were bus here and a van body for $A800, then the white camper for $300, and the last 4 shells for $800.

I like that one. Corner windows (yum), tidy seams, left hand exhaust exist and the side door opens to the left not the right!

Howabout a commerfan fan extreme meet in Australia! we can fix up a few vans and get a sun tan at the same time!

Tks for the photos of the engine out....will print and show to mechanic. They just could not be borthered, too much easy work.

I also like the round rear windows.
