Any Commer fans in Australia?

Hi, I'm very new to the Commer scene, having been into VW's all my life. I must say the Commer is a refreshing change!!

I've just bought a '69 panel van with no rust, still in factory paint and only 59 000 miles on the clock
and I am also picking up a '62 ambulance with all equipment and with only 18 000 miles.

I would like to know if there are any other Commer fans over here, it would be great to get in contact.

Cheers, Rhett.

dont really know if theres any more fans in aussie, as im quite new to the club myself mate, but theres lots of us over here who would love to hear from you and your adventures,i wouldnt mind seeing a few pickys of the old girl either if thats ok with you,as they are quite rare old beasts on british rds now days due to them all falling pray to the rust bug, you dont know of any more good vans for sale over there do you ,or better still a pick up. cheers look forward to hearing from you soon mate ,from woolfy.

Hey Woolfy, I haven't seen any pick ups at all over here, I know of a couple more vans put they are pretty rusty too.

hi ya phat bud cheers for getting back to us me old mate ,thats the problem over here in old blighty aswell, there is hardly any vans available as they all seem to have vanished into the grave yard in the sky due to rust, but there always seems to be quite a few camper vans ,for some reason. im bidding on two right now as we speak on ebay. maybe il have to get the grinder out and turn one of them into a van or pick up. (i would love to see some of the faces of the people who have just read this last statment,) im only joking guys.:D:([}:)]try and keep in touch bud as its great to here from someone so far away whos into these old rust buckets ,kinder makes you feel like we are not alone, ha ha , p.s have you got any pictures that you could show us all.

oh and i forgot to say dont worry mate your not to far away to buy some of my delightful new reproduction panels,

Will take some photo's of my van too..

i tell you what mate she looks in very good condition for her age, what year was she from i wish they all looked that good over here ,then i wouldnt have to reproduce all these repair panels, p.s do you mind if i ask what you paid for her,and also do you still see many of them over there,or can you get any body panels for them still, as they are very hard to come by over here, cheers from woolfy,p.p.s actually if you look on some of the earlier topics that martin maltas wrote ,i think in the parts topic you might see a picture of my old rust bucket its red and white ,he saw my advert on ebay for panels that i reproduce ,and he kindly listed it on this site for me.

Can you imagine the excitement that would be generate if it were a splitty - what a cracking bus. Our motors are hugely under valued but that is good news for buyers and keeps the speculators away. Lets keep it that way, just for the enthusiasts.

dont you just wish we had a warm climate like the aussies panky,no rust hardly ,how chuffed would you be if we found one as clean as that.ive got to say it bud your one lucky son of a bit--, only joking mate dont take offence.its just our sence of humour over here.

what do you preffer the splittys or the commerardos, and be honest as your now rigged up to a lie detector machine.,also did you get my message about spares where you live ,are there any available.

I haven't driven a commer on the road yet, so I can't make a fair comparison, plus i dont wan't to incriminate myself. ha ha.

From what i've seen commers are much rarer than splitties over here, I would say that I've only ever seen about 6 commers and none have been on the road. so spares are probably going to be very hard to get.

PS does anyone have any pics of modified commers, everything ine seen so far has been pretty stock. Anyone lowered their van?

not lowered it yet but im going to modify mine this year ,im doing a full restoration on it ,new panels ect ,but a bigger engine is gonna get squeezed in ,and im gonna drop her down a few inches, plus some nice crome shoes to finish off of course.

Hi Phat Bug and welcome to the site. Talking about lowering, I have tried to scan in the pics of the drag Commer I was rambling on about last week.

You won't get much lower than that!
