Ageing my commer?

Thought this was the right place to post...

our commer is registered 06/1973, just wondering how i might trace the date of manufacture? cos if it was made b4 01jan '73 i don't have to pay tax!!

When i insured it, their search stated date of manufacture 1972...but i need to be able to substantiate it.

I've had a look on British Motor Heritage site, but they don't seem to do commers....

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

hi Andy,i have a similar senario with the first van i bought,no.1...the previous owner had problems as it had been exported to south africa for 10 years then imported back to uk.just rummaged through the paper work...letter from peugeot service division.
"thankyou for your letter recieved in our office date.
unfortunately,I have limited information with regard to the pb range of vehicles,also unfortunately the vin number is incomplete.From the information provided it would appear that the vehicle was built approximately at the end of 1969."(she is presently on an s plate).the address:peugeot talbot motor company limited,aldermoor house,p.o. box 227,aldermooor lane,coventry cv3 1lt. i don't know if they are still there?letter was dated 1993 maybe this will be of help [?]

We dated my cousins 73 PB by contacting Renault trucks
in Dunstable Bedfordshire,
From memory we contacted a helpful guy called Andy King
in the records dept.
Renault trucks hold all the production line records.
Andy sent us a copy of the line doc with the eng /chas numbers
on, and most important, the date..
My Cousins van was reg in July 73 but made in Sept72 I think.
He visited the local DVLA office in Shrewsbury, and it was sorted with no problems..

Dear Andy

I have just purchased an 'L' registered commer. Wondered if you have had any luck with finding the date of manufacture as i want to be exempt from road tax too. It says mine was first registered on 6th April 1973 but the mot says the approximate year of first use was 1971

If you can help me i would be greatly appreciateve
