What would I use to seal the flanges between the inlet manifold and the exhaust manifold, where the baffle/ deflector is fitted.

Is it easier to fit the manifolds on the engine before refitting or when the engine is back in the ambulance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I'd leave the manifolds off until the engine is in, gives a bit more wiggle room and better access to the engine mounts when you are putting the bolts in. I may be wrong but I don't think there was any gasket fitted in the hot spot between the manifolds so I would maybe put a smear of exhaust paste in just to be sure. Ideally you would separate the manifolds and do away with the hot spot but that does mean some cutting and welding/fabrication to give a reasonable air gap but going that far leads you into SU conversion territory when it starts getting expensive (but well worth it).

Thanks Mr P I will put a smear of exhaust cement between the flanges , I did look at Martins SU conversion but bought one of his Webcon conversions. so now with this information hope to have engine in before Christmas.
