Advice on an awning.

hi all, I'm looking at getting an awning in the summer. Where is the best place to look for an awning? Also what sort of price should I be paying?
 
All depends on if you want a modern or an original type and what you want it for. We have got Harvey's original one, which is great but starting to get a bit fragile. We usually use a Suncamp utility tent, which isn't that big but is great for chucking all your stuff in but big enough for a couple of people to sit in out of the rain.

Will probably work better on the non door side of my van. The opening door is a pain because you have to get the canvas above the door when it opens...

Still liking the vintage ones but pricing and heavy... So all in all undecided...

Great use of what looks like a tarp, it's funny i was going to use my tarp as a temporary measure.
 
yes it's a tarp... I sewed along one side a load of figure of eight rod. then I can put the figure of eight on either side of the van (or along the back... and I punched holes along the edge of the tarp... so lots of options but not actually that light as a total package... but gives me lots of flexibility and easy enough for one person to get up...
 
if you want to go that way Andrew the tarps in Decathlon are perfect and cheap. Already have eye holes and poles, just need the figure of 8 gutter rail and to stitch in a piece of cord...cheap off fleebay
 
hi Andrew...i do have a big drive away awning that I thinking of selling this summer. Fits the van well, got a brand new bedroom in it and a zipped in ground sheet. It's the king of awnings but too heavy for ..we tend to stay somewhere a night or two rather than a week and really a two man job so depends how big the family is and what you're looking for I guess. If you're interested I'll dig it out and find a picture of one up...

It needs a little more thought - we throw this up a few weeks ago (due to mates already pitched up and all wanting to look at Pootle) and did not bother moving it to fit better / properly - the result was it went over the body easy but the rear door would not open wide - I may need to attach a small awning rail as high up as I can and then pull the awning back to tighten - thats a job of a nice weekend LOL
