Hello guys, I know there's been a bit of very attractive fettling with intake manifolds to accept one of these but I got thinking today about another option and wondered if anyone had tried it, (couldn't find anything on a search other than the fettling). Basically I was looking at an 1"3/4 SU off an old rover v8 (thought it wouldn't be far off fueling wise as it's one of a pair from the 3500cc so its been supplying half the fuel air mixture, ie 1750cc, should it be as simple as that???) Anyway, I was considering leaving the existing manifold standard and making as short as possible angled maifold extension to bolt between the SU and the fixing point of the original carb, also the bend, if I can make it short enough, should enable the SU to be positioned at the correct angle and avoid cutting any bodywork. Anyway, has anyone already tried it? If not then I'll get cracking and have a go myself!
I did try it years ago, I brazed a couple of flanges to match the manifold and the carb onto a heavy duty brass elbow. The difference in performance was amazing - so was the fuel consumption down in the low teens[:0]
I use an un-tried Stromberg of unknown origin, it worked after a fashion but it wasn't on for very long:I I couldn't quite get it to sit low enough and had to cut a hole on the engine cover for the dash-pot.
Yep, thats exactly the sort of thing I was considering, actually now I think about it, I can't say for sure if it's a 2" and correct for the P6 or actually an 1"3/4 off something else!!! I'll dig it out and have a check. Can't say I'd mind too much accomodating the dashpot through the middle seat base, and as far as consumption figures go I haven't done any maths but I know I put an awful lot of fuel in far too often, but I really like SU's and they look nice polished!
Did you not see it at woolfie's last year[?]. The air intake that bolts to the carb is off a mini and the plastic elbow is part of the original air duct off a peugeot 106 gti. took a bit of working out to fit inthe confines of th engine bay but i'm very pleased with the end result
p.s. all due to the superb engineering skills of Mr Tims inlet manifolds[^][^]

Your idea will work, it,s just not ideal, another tight bend won,t help and neither will a sudden change in cross sectional area to reduce it down from 1 3/4". And you may end up having to cut the engine lid for clearance. Trev,s one requires no body mods

Had to make an alloy plate to fit (mini elbow) then bond the plastic on to it . the 1st effort was ok until the the engine bay got hot but in the end, good old Aroldite super strength did/doing the job.
