1972 Commer PB - another Resto thread

When you have it white it is usually because it has either gone on too thick and needs time to dry or it hasn't dried yet. When I used to use it in a workshop that had no heating I had a heat gun that I would speed up the drying with. It converts and turns black if you apply it gently. no need...

1972 Commer PB - another Resto thread

Fuel tank was coated internally with the kit from frosts (Por15 according to my old thread) so although it looks ropey on the outside it should be good internally. I was having loads of issues with snakeskin so thoroughly cleaned the inside and coated it to keep the original tank instead of...

    Interesting...5 speed gearboxes...

I would do it but the sxvert has changed to 6 speed and £1200. My van is only really low profile tires which would help. The hanflinv is the main area to address though

1972 Commer PB w/ Autosleeper roof for sale

I agree, unfortunately it doesn't get enough use and I don't want it to deteriorate on my drive. Took it for a run to Fishguard a couple of months ago and it behaved itself really well, apart from the scary handling which comes as standard with the Commers. Few more notes on the van: It is...

1972 Commer PB w/ Autosleeper roof for sale

Hi Guys, I am placing my van up for sale as it has turned out to be not ideal for the size of our family and requirements and I have also just acquired a much more modern van. The ongoing work thread for the van is here https://forum.commervanfan.co.uk/threads/1972-commer-pb.8257/ Currently...

    Flashlube injection for petrol engine?

Hi Guys, We have a large MAN engine at my workplace that runs on gas and one of the engineers is fitting a Flashlube injection system to try and prevent it needing the head reconditioning every 8 months!! Once I have the valve seats and head reconditioned on my Commer would anybody recommend...

Misfire / missing a cylinder, help!

I have been cleaning the head up when I have chance with brillo pads and mr muscle. A work colleague looked at the photo and suggested having hardened valve inserts so I have contacted a company for a quote to have the head refurbished and inserts fitted. Currently quoted £25 per insert, fitted...

    Doors on Ebay

I fancy custom twin side doors in my van. Martin, if you knock up a weld-in pillar kit with hinge fastenings and a door frame structure I would buy it off you immediately ;-) I could skin the door frames with a side panel from a scrapper up the road :-)

Misfire / missing a cylinder, help!

Finally got chance to remove the head and inspect. Comments please on next steps, at least a valve needed as far as I can see. Is the wear enough to be the issue?

Roadworthiness Testing For Vehicles Of Historic Interest

My MOT ran out on the 19th May, the day before MOT exemption. According to the information / quote I found, if your van is out of MOT just prior to the MOT Exemption, like mine, but you have Tax, the DVLA automatically register it as being MOT exempt from the 20th onwards. You then have to opt...

Misfire / missing a cylinder, help!

Have stripped a lot off the head and will get the head off tomorrow night hopefully. Will look at getting other jobs sorted at the same time (manifold cleaned, head skimmed.... etc) Any recommendations are welcome. Especially anything that might give a few more horses :-)

Misfire / missing a cylinder, help!

Manifold bolts / nuts have undone straightaway, thermostat housing was removed and refitted only six months ago. My next question was about these, the workshop manual says to lift the head out with manifold and carb attached and I assume the thermostat housing. I thought splitting at the...
