You will need to make sure that leaving the door ajar does suck air out and not draw air in. When I have driven a car with the tailgate ajar it has sucked exhaust fumes in. However, the position of your exhaust pipes may prevent this.

The electric handbrake in my Fiat has a warning light in the switch which is mounted in the centre console. The handbrake on my XK8 is mounted to the right of the driver's seat like the Commer, but sits down in the horizontal position whether on or off, so remains out of the way when getting in...
