I thought loads of them had battery boxes (AKA "Sunken footbath") in the passenger door well.

Do you have overdrive? The reason I ask is that if the overdrive is supported on the usual kind of trapeze hanger, combined with engine mount failure, the engine can move fore and aft under braking. Also might cause the steering ball joints to contact the sump. Just a thought.....

Head gasket went again.:( Same failure as last time. Turns out the head was warped, so took it for a skim. Max 8 thou, min zero, so it really needed it. New head gasket, back on and running fine again. A right PITA though. The moral of this story is that if the head is twisted you won't find it...

I had similar symptoms after fitting a 0.70 kit into a 0.75 bore master cylinder. Fortunately I had both kits so just used the correct one.

Search for "Dynamator to Alternator" to find the thread. Alternators come with left or right hand mounting. Make sure you get the right one!

I used a Lucas 17ACR, widely available and yes the R means they have an integral voltage regulator. Are you converting from dynamo? If so the conversion instructions are already on this forum somewhere.

Yes. I use them for my Karrier Bantam. I even sourced a servo repair kit from them. Top man.

Also make sure they replace the tyre valves with new "Taxi" type valves, as the rims were designed for tube type tyres and have larger holes. Last time I had tyres fitted they didn't change the valves because they didn't have any, and couldn't be bothered to get them. By the time the new tyres...
