Have you upgraded the lights? Might be worth checking the wiring and putting relays in for the lights?

Chris, the battery is only a couple of years old, I think it's more likely the alternator is on its way out - another thing to replace! Colin, I haven't actually done that as a check in it's own right, but I don't recall noticing any difference, but I'll add it to the list of things to try!
