    Head gasket.. maybe ..

Aha- yes the oil vent still goes to the air intake. That would add to the moisture-in-rockerbox? I hadn't thought of that, thanks Dodgeram ! I'm using him to drive to work which is about 9 miles each way. He gets warm but only just by the time I get there. Perfect journey for such moistness ...

    Head gasket.. maybe ..

Hi me again Engine is losing water, but not quickly. Small amount of mayo in the oil filler cap. Removing the water filler and viewing the radiator coolant: If I blip the accelerator, it doesn't bubble or surge. Seems fine. Water pressure seems ok. so .. somehow water is getting in the oil...

This week's strangeness: tickover dipping when braking

ps. I think he's running lean - a little bit of choke diminshes the problem . so when the new air filter arrives I'll tweak the mixture as Panky suggests. Dodgeram - I'm expecting to find all kinds of crap because he's mayonnaising the oil. Time for another new thread ..

This week's strangeness: tickover dipping when braking

The stopping part : Yep, they have that nailed. No problem at all there. The starting again: Less so. Not quite as good in this department.

This week's strangeness: tickover dipping when braking

Thanks for responding, peoples - It was doing the same thing before removing the filter, but not to the point where it was cutting out. It was on the verge though. When dipping clutch: no difference in revs. When stationery and applying brake: no difference in revs It seems to be related to...

This week's strangeness: tickover dipping when braking

Hi all Today's question ... Engine is 1725cc standard cast iron head, zenith carb- standard stuff. When pulling up to a junction, the tickover dives, often to the point of cutting out. I can't quite work out whether it's the brakes or just the fact that the van is being slowed (ie...

Thermostat missing - thermostat installed - heater works

Panky.. ok thanks. looks like someone's taken it out, so will do as you suggest- thanks. While I'm here : There's a lever connected to the heater which pulls in/out from around the middle of the dashboard. It seems to do 'something'.. is that some kind of air intake setting, from recycling to...

Thermostat missing - thermostat installed - heater works

Ta Jimberlake. I ordered a temp sender as ours just has a blanking plug. The Temp gauge reads wildly (right off the scale even when engine isn't running yet, or in the middle somewhere , or .. etc) I don't know what it's connected to yet - haven't traced the wires. . maybe some other sender...

Thermostat missing - thermostat installed - heater works

Hi all This is our first winter with Roland the commer, having bought him in October. I thought the heater was a bit crap but concluded it's a 70's van, they hadn't really got it all sorted by then and it's a large cabin to heat. Then I noticed the water rushing past the radiator filler hole...

    Starter motor behaviour

Well I tried all the above and concluded it was probably the starter motot, so I bought a new one. That alone has fixed it. I haven't fitted the new one - just the act of shelling out called sod's law into play, and the existing one started behaving. Are comer vans related to cats in some way...
