We put the main and intermediate shafts back in today........ That's the turbines in the background, the forward/reverse gears in the foreground, with the final drive up underneath. Lovely stuff :)

There is another problem with electric fuel pumps. If the pressure pipe from the pump blows off, or is badly damaged, the pump will keep pumping fuel over a potentially hot engine with live electrics. had exactly this happen to my old Ford Anglia many years ago. The engine bay was full of spilt...

Type of sealant isn't a problem. Hylomar Aerograde. The question is whether to use it at all. The steel gaskets are only used on cast iron heads. I think they are the correct ones (as in similar to OEM ones). Being thinner they raise the compression ratio just a bit.

I'm after a bit of advice...... As you know, I don't generally do petrol at all, (apart from garden machinery :)) but I fitted a new head gasket to the Cub's 1725 iron head engine and it has the very slightest coolant leak from the front of the head, presumably due to less than perfect surface...

Ah Jim, that reminds me. When I regeared my truck 25 years ago with different axle and larger wheels the speedo was obviously way out, so I calculated, then drew a new circular scale on paper, and stuck it on the front of the glass. It's still there.

The speedo reading depends on the speedo gear fitted in the tail housing of the gearbox. I think there are gears with different numbers of teeth, but have no idea which are right for our van's differential, wheel and tyre size combination. The workshop manual doesn't help either. I have a spare...
