I had to disconnect the track rods at the inner ball joints, and then remove the steering yoke as the oil tray fouled against both, even then it was difficult to actually get the pan off as it kept fouling against the oil pump suction strainer - I even had to slacken off the engine mounting...
Martin - if you are reading this - any tips for making it easier to get the sump off - or is it just a plain and simple buggerance

I flushed the engine tonight and changed to 20W50 oil. Ran the engine for an our at fast idle, the pressure gauge once again dropped to approx 25psi - but the oil warning light no longer extinguishes.
I will try and source a digital pressure gauge at some point to connect up and get a real...
I put my cherry bomb on last night - its a thing of beauty, sounds quieter - sort of a low murmour - to be honest standing outside the van all you can hear is the clackety clack of the cav fuel pump

ah bugger bugger bugger, its on the oil pump - that means dropping the oil sump - which means dismantling the front suspension - not gonna happen any time soon, getting the sump off was the hardest part of the whole engine rebuild!
there is this possibility off a boating forum
"The sudden loss...
... Cherry bomb is on,
In my opinion it is quieter than the baffled box I have taken off - maybe it just sounds quieter because it is a deeper tone - all I can really hear now is the fuel pump clacking away. Its all suspended on big Jubilees until I relocate the suspension brackets
definitely...
it was a weep - cant see it being the issue though - had the same pressure drop driving home - fine for the first 7 or 8 miles then gradually drops until the warning light comes on whenever running when stationary

just got home, same oil pressure issue, once temp above half way the oil pressure drops. warning light every roundabout and traffic light - even at low revs in fourth. I am not losing oil - and the weep at the pressure gauge surely cant be effecting things
might just take the bulb out!
anyway...
Took the Dog to work today (26 miles)
some of this is mentioned on another thread however
whilst here have checked the diff oil - was about an egg cup full - flushed and filled with EP100
Gearbox wasnt much better - had about a pint of very old oil in it. - Topped up with 10W40 that we use in...
have just found some EP100 and EP80, will put the EP100 in as it will leak less, - I only have 15/40 for the gearbox at the moment, that will be better than nothing

now that the Dog is parked on proper tarmac rather than the wood chippings at home, I can now see where all the oil leaks are
1. gearbox output shaft seal (if thats what its called) - about a teaspoon on the floor
2. Diff front seal (same qty)
Now my understanding is that I should use good...
ah, just looked at the perkins manual,
oil pressure = 2.1 - 4.2 kg/cm2 at max speed & normal working temp (30-60 psi)
so maybe 25 psi at idle isnt a huge problem (hopefully)

I dont think its a huge issue but........
Took the dog from home to work this morning (26 miles)
managed 55mph on the flat before the temp dial started nudging the red so I backed off (early days)
I did however notice that when the engine is hot my oil pressure drops off - i get the warning...
I tried a similar thing with the dogs K&N but mine is on the other side of the engine and the alternator is in the way, I have the same bit of guttering 90 degree bend! It is something I am still looking at though - where did you get the flexi hose that may be the answer for me

Your pobably right, I always thought 2500 referred to the engine size - but just googled it and found it was capacity, I think I need to update the log book (it still says the Dog is blue and white)
