Our next project is a wedding ... And we have the baywindow to keep us occupied in between.
So many Commer memories - the best part is all the people I've met. They usually walked past David's bay to talk to me about the Commer.
One guy was driving alongside me at 45 mph on a dual carriage...
I know it's a long-shot, just reading through posts and quite a few members are looking to get their hand on folding bench seats, but I'm just throwing my hat into the ring in case any is looking rid of theirs??

Hubbell - what have you decided?I think I'm getting a new bottom end after all, as the price comparison with a rebuild seems pretty equal. Mechanic is trying to figure out which compression Lola needs.

Thanks Panky - I don't think he has mentioned it but I'll be sure to pass it on :Dquote:

Wee update: it now looks like Lola will be getting a brand new bottom end after all. Thankfully I knew what the mechanic was talking about due to other posts on here. Also getting a new exhaust and radiator recoated. Lola might just last for another 40 years!!

The notification letters haven't changed. In fact, the cost of the test is still £30.50. So lulu is from Fermanagh? Did you come over to pick her up??

Oh how I wish garages did MOTs over here! Sadly in Northern Ireland we have to go through government run test centres. What I have worked out though, is that it's best to go for an evening appointment, when they've more time for a friendly chat ... That's my plan anyhow.
On another note, I just...
Lulu, you'd be more than welcome and i make a great cup of tea! I live about 20 minutes up the road from Newry, but do expect to listen to me bang in about the trials and tribulations of Lola!!

Hard to beat a good cup of tea!:DCheers for the info and advice Hubbell. I'm of the same opinion as lulu, that I think I want to stick with what I have and if the rebuild is done right then Lola will be good for years to come. Also, my mechanic seems good, if he rebuilds the engine hopefully he...

Hubbell - I'm actually pleased to hear that (sorry:I), confirming it's the same problem. It gives me hope that my new mechanic does know...
Just as a wee update to my plight, lola's bearings need replaced and new mechanic said I could have this done - might keep lola going 3 months or 3 years; or I could have the engine rebuilt. So I've opted for the rebuild. Hopefully it'll all be done within a month.

I'd be happy to check out the rear for anyone that's interested - it would give me a chance to meet Joe and his blue Commer that's definitely not for sale ;)'

Apologies if this is a duplicate post - I'm delighted to see another commer fan over here :Dhttp://cars.donedeal.co.uk/vintagecars-for-sale/1978-dodge-pb-van/6779194

I hope so too lulu!He seems nice. No ego or hubris. Said he'd have a look and made no promises.
The other outfit were brim full of their own self importance. Their reason for palming-off Lola is that it was coming into racing season and they had other vehicles booked in. Thankfully racing...
Oh I was screeching alright! However the engine wasn't but there was a knocking noise which got progressively worse. Power worsened too. I think I only drove the van about 5 miles but by the end the electrics light was on steady and poor Lola barely made it up the hills. She was crawling at 5...
